On Tuesday June 10, 2008 St. Gregory the Great CES hosted its annual summer carnival. The carnival was a night of fun and entertainment for St. Gregory's students and their families. There were many prizes to be won, foods to be tasted, and rides to be dared at this year's carnival. The attractions at this year's carnival ranged from an inflatable basketball shootout game to an inflatable rock climbing wall. Well over 1,000 residents partook in the event, and the carnival also acted as a successful school fundraiser.
The Vaughan Food Bank also partook in the carnival as residents were able to donate non-perishable foods as they entered the carnival. The Vaughan Food Bank thanks all the residents who donated food, with a special thanks to Mr. Rocco Barilla, Principal of St. Gregory the Great CES who invited the Vaughan Food Bank to the carnival. Through the carnival the Vaughan Food Bank was able to collect a substantial amount of food during a time of year where food donations typically slowdown.
Commenting on the success of the event, Peter Wixson, Director of the Vaughan Food Bank said, "It was a pleasure to be a part of St. Gregory the Great's annual summer carnival. I'd like to thank Mr. Barilla for inviting us to attend the event. The carnival not only provided us with the opportunity to raise food, but also to increase awareness in the community for the Vaughan Food Bank."
St. Gregory the Great's summer carnival was a terrific way to mark the end of another successful school year, and contribute to the efforts of the Vaughan Food Bank.
