On May 31st 2008 Girls on the Run hosted a 5km walk in support of Kids Help Phone. The run was held at Boyd Park in Vaughan. Over 1000 people came out to participate in the walk; even children partook in the shorter 2km route. Luckily, despite a looming threat of rain throughout the event, the event was not rained out. The Vaughan Food Bank was invited by Girls on the Run to partake in the event, and participants were urged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Vaughan Food Bank.
The Vaughan Food Bank collected over 5 bins of non-perishable food items, and Vaughan Food Bank Director Peter Wixson was invited to help present awards to the event's participants. The Vaughan Food Bank would like to thank Girls on the Run for inviting us to their walk. The event provided us with an opportunity to collect food during a traditionally slow period of food collection, and increase awareness of the food bank in the community. We were happy to work with Girls on the Run and we look forward to working with them in the future.
