The Knights of Columbus St. Peter's Council were on hand last evening at the Vaughan Food Bank to prepare the Christmas Hampers for the needy of our community. Peter Wixson, the Director of the Vaughan Food Bank, exclaimed that he was pleasantly surprised when more that 25 Knights showed up to help; he had only expected 10 or 12. Since there were so many helping hands, some knights went over to another temporary facility and sorted many barrels of food into its proper boxed categories.
Before everyone got started, Peter explained how the Vaughan Food Bank operates completely on a volunteer basis; they now give out approximately 5,000 meals per month. This year the demand has gone up and unfortunately the amount of food collected so far is down from last year.
If you would like to contribute nonperishable food items to the Vaughan Food Bank, just bring them in to any Fire Station, or directly to the Vaughan Food Bank at 71 Maycroft Dr. Unit 8.
