The Vaughan Food Bank is in need of more space, and would ultimately like to expand its headquarters. The organizers of SavourVaughan would like to contribute to this expansion with net proceeds being forwarded to this wonderful organization.
Organizer Jennifer Montesano explains: " SavourVaughan restaurant week is a celebration of fine flavours in our City, and is an opportunity for those to go out and sample fine cuisine at a fixed price, but we are also sensitive to the reality that not all citizens in our community fortunate enough to take part in such luxuries."
Located at 71 Marycroft Avenue, the Vaughan Food Bank provides emergency food assistance to individuals and families who are in need. While food bank clients generally receive a 2-4 day supply of food, the Vaughan Food Bank is usually supplying its clients with assistance for up to 28 days.
Food banks distribute non-perishable food items that have been donated by the community, and rely heavily on the time and generosity of others. Food banks do not receive any government funding. There is an application process a client must go through in order to receive assistance. The Vaughan Food Bank also assists community programs and agencies such as Rose Sharon-Services for Young Mothers and The Yellow Brick House Women's Shelter.
