Launches Saturday, October 1st, 2011
“HUNGER IS NOT A MYTH, IT IS A REALITY”
Executive Director, Vaughan Food Bank
For Immediate Release: (Vaughan, ON) The 5TH Annual SavourYork Region Thanksgiving Food Drive to benefit the Vaughan Food Bank will kick off at Fortinos on Hwy 7 and Ansley Grove Road on Saturday, October 1st, 2011 from 11am to 3pm sponsored by Fortinos Woodbridge, the Vaughan Fire Rescue, TD Canada Trust-Vaughan, and proudly supported by The Knights of Columbus St. Peter's Council in Woodbridge.
Executive Director of the Vaughan Food Bank, Peter Wixson, says “Hunger is NOT a myth. It is a reality!” He adds, “Families in our own neighbourhoods need our support to make ends meet in these tough economic times. Each and every family deserves a great Thanksgiving meal and collectively as a community we can help ensure that this happens.”
And with that, SavourYork Region organizers have once again issued a call to action to local businesses and neighbourhoods across the Region to “reach out and lend a helping hand” this year, by working together for a common goal.
Co-Organizer Elvira Caria says “The food drive is the hallmark of SavourYork Region’s tradition of community service.” She says, “We’re urging neighbourhoods to get together, donate a can or two and help make a difference. The Challenge is also a call to action to local businesses to encourage their employees to bring a can to work during this time, and help feed the needy.
People who cannot attend the Food Drive on October 1st can drop off their non-perishable food items at any TD Canada Trust Vaughan location, or for a monetary donation, they can visit www.savouryorkregion.com.
The Food Drive kicks into high gear Saturday, October 1st at Fortinos, Woodbridge where everyone is invited to join the Vaughan Fire Rescue and The Knights of Columbus for a fun filled day of food and activities along with prizes. The Knights will be on hand to collect donations and serve up delicious treats.
