SAVOURVAUGHAN RESTAURANT WEEK KICKS OFF WITH MASSIVE THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT VAUGHAN FOOD BANK
Organizers of SavourVaughan Restaurant Week Jennifer Montesano and Elvira Caria, have teamed up with onvaughan.com, the Vaughan Fire Rescue, and Fortino’s in Woodbridge for a massive Thanksgiving Food Drive to benefit the Vaughan Food Bank.
The food drive will kick off Wednesday October 3rd, 2007 at Fortino’s on Hwy 7 and Ansley Grove ( west of Hwy 400) in Woodbridge.
Toronto’s EZ ROCK 97.3 Morning Show Stu and Colleen will be live on location from 6am to 9am, so stop by the planned broadcast, bring a non-perishable food item or financial donation, and get a chance to meet and greet this dynamic radio team.
Vaughan Fire & Rescue Service will be on hand with 3 fire trucks to collect the food donations. The Knights of Columbus - St.Peter’s Council in Woodbridge, will also be making a donation and serve free coffee and snacks to those dropping by the Food Drive.
To date, there is a desperate call for action as SavourVaughan Organizers have learned that inventory is dangerously low and the Vaughan Food Bank is unable to serve the York Region Agencies in need of their help. Current food supply will take them to the end of month, just in time for the planned Thanksgiving Food Drive.
SavourVaughan co-organizer Jennifer Montesano says ‘We have also learned that the Vaughan Food Bank is in dire need of financial support in order to expand its operations and keep its doors open for the 2008 fiscal year.” We wanted to somehow help in any way we could to ensure needy families in Vaughan were being serviced.
Montesano adds, “SavourVaughan Restauarant Week is a celebration of fine flavours in our City, and is an opportunity for those to go out and sample fine cuisine at a fixed price, but we are also sensitive to the reality that not all citizens in our community are fortunate enough to take part in such luxuries. This is our way of acknowledging those in need in our community.”
The Vaughan Food Bank is one hundred percent operated by volunteers, with no paid staff on board. Funding for the Vaughan Food Bank is supported by contributions from various corporations, individuals and the Pennywise Thrift Store. These funds go directly to the day to day operations of the Food Bank to ensure all families and individuals in need of assistance are taken care of. There is no monetary support from municipal, provincial or federal governments.
We urge you to please take action and support the planned food drive. Any monetary donation over $20.00 dollars will receive an official tax receipt on the spot.
To donate, simply show up at the broadcast or go to www.savourvaughan.com and click on to Food Drive.
