2014 Vaughan Fire & Rescue Services Reconition

Vaughan, Ontario- September 29, 2014: the Vaughan Food Bank (VFB) recently honoured six Vaughan Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) firefighters with special appreciation awards at the city of Vaughan Committee of the Whole on September 2nd, 2014.

In attendance were His Worship Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, Members of the Council, members of the public and firefighters from Vaughan Fire and Rescue Services.

"We are proud of the relationship we have built and fostered with Vaughan Fire & Rescue Services", said Peter Wixson, Executive Director of the Vaughan Food Bank,  "The work and effort they put into ensuring our safety is commendable; they are the true heroes of our community. The Vaughan Food Bank would not be able to provide this vital service to the most vulnerable and marginalized citizens of the City of Vaughan without their help".

Peter went on to express that this support could not exist without the guidance of VFRS Chief Larry Bently, VFRS Deputy Chief Gary Fraser, VFRS Deputy Chief Deryn Rizzi, the Platoon Chiefs, Captains and Firefighters.

Assisting the VFS at the event was Tavlin Kaur, Staff Lawyer at the Community Legal Clinic of York Region, who read out the names of the recipients while Peter Wixson presented the awards to them.
